Development of a thermally insulated membrane

The “InsulTX” research project dealt with the development of a thermally insulated membrane to reduce energy losses in textile architecture

In our research project with Chemnitz University of Technology and the Company Karten Daedler, we developed a new system for a thermally insulated membrane. The essential elements of lightweight membrane construction should be taken into account and particular advantages identified. Among other things, the highest possible translucency should be achieved through a targeted choice of material. On the other hand, a low U-value, such as that of modern triple glazing, was aimed for.

In this context, the product “3d-IsoSkin” was developed by 3dtex GmbH. A thermally insulated membrane that works on the basis of a point holder construction. Using the prototype “Wolke 7” – (cloud 9), all the theoretical knowledge was put into practice and the experimental tree house construction was subjected to extensive material tests.
