Summer over Berlin – Sun sail
The sun appears in an expressive form thanks to the unusual design made by 3dtex of the awning: The interplay of aesthetics and function of the sun sail transforms the roof terrace into an experience space, high above the roofs of Berlin.

In this prototype of an innovative shading structure, 30 mm wide straps were tensioned in a free arrangement between the perimeter straps. The resulting pattern creates an irregular shadow effect that evokes the impression of a natural canopy of leaves. Varying overlaps and the deliberately non-uniform arrangement give the sun sail an organic character and generate a lively interplay of light and shadow beneath it.
Based on this design, the follow-up project “Pattern Sail for Arnsdorf” was developed.
